Halloween in August?!

Liz and others - feel free to let me know if I am being too conservative about my Halloween remake accusations or if you think it really is crazy to remake classics...and then release them two months too early...

It did seem like a stupid idea all around, but it made a bucket load o' cheddar over Labor Day weekend, grossing more in four days than it cost to make. So, aesthetically you have a valid point. Box office-wise, it looks like a smart move.

For what it's worth, I saw the remake, and it's not terrible. Mr. Zombie's a halfway decent director, and most of the performances are pretty good. Plus, there's an unbelievable amount of gratuitous female nudity, if that's your thing. It's not too scary though. I liked the backstory stuff, but it saps some of the scares later on, since we know a lot about the boogeyman by that point. It was scarier in the original when he was more mysterious and enigmatic (that was for you Chris).

I'm not disagreeing with you Shane, but I think that any new film by Rob Zombie was going to make a good amount of bank. While I haven't seen a single one of his films and listened to a very small amount of his music, it seems to be clear that he's built up a core niche audience that will go see his film based on his name alone. I guess I wish that Rob Zombie would keep directing films he's written on his own rather then tarnishing the name of an excellent film.
