He was the original Man! He was, i think the first actor that all men could truly say they wanted to be like. Rock Hudson and Errol Flynt pale in comparison to the Duke. He was a man who truly kept himself and his house in order. Unlike today's leading men, marrying and divorcing thirteen times, drug problems, alcoholism, insanity, the Duke was a bright light in a very dim Hollywood.
What do I think about the Duke......well, I haven't a clue. I'm going to wait for the backlash, but I've actually never and I mean never seen a movie starring the one and only John Wayne. So, Cardinal Review Boards, tell me, if I'm going to check out a movie starring the Duke, what should I see?

If I hadn't gone out of my way to see a John Wayne movie, I think it's totally understandable. He died before I was even born, and neither of my rents are really into westerns. That said, if you won't take that rational explanation, I'll just have to come up there to Philly and kick some sense into that head of yours! ;)

I am pretty sure that Steve has been living under a rock...or in a pig farm...or maybe under a rock on a pig farm. And yes, that would be excellent if you would come up here and do some ass kicking. I will arrange an arena and get some of those girls to carry numbers around. You will need a cool wrestling name though if we do that. Something like: "The Hammer" or maybe "The Staple Remover"
Thank you Mac for joining and for your actual comment. Steve - read my damn reviews. I am not watching these things for my health ;) (Stagecoach is a great starter btw - right on Carlson. - btw - Mac - you up for watching any of these supposed greatest films with me? I have Rules of the Game from Netflix at the moment.)
I wanna be The Epoxy in this Cardinal Review fighting league. "Aw man, The Epoxy sure has his opponent in a sticky situation!! The fans are glued to their feet!" Etc.
I just discovered that Josef Stalin had ordered that Wayne be assasinated for his strong anti-communist views. But the Duke managed to outsmart the Steel Czar by dying before the order could be carried out!!
I would recommend as a good first Wayne film for anyone unfamiliar with his oeuvre to see "Wake of the Red Witch". It is atypical inasmuch as it is neither a western nor a war film so you get to see Wayne acting in character without conforming to any of the movie stereotypes necessitated in other roles.
