Can someone share with me how Christian Bale hasn't been nominated for an Oscar yet and especially this year? Clooney, Depp, and Mortensen could all have been left off the list with Bale being nominated for Rescue Dawn. (Day-Lewis definitely deserved to be there and I can't speak on Lee Jones having not seen In The Valley of Elah) Was Herzog's film just that much off-the-radar of Hollywood? Has anyone else out there seen this film?

Sorry steve-o, i have seen this film, and i must say i was slightly disappointed in it after your review. The film was very emotional, and quite the roller coaster ride, aka, non-stop action once it started. However i didn't feel Bale's performance. I have seen him in the Machinist and THAT should have been an Oscar nod, but i just don't think it was an Oscar worthy performance in Dawn. Can't say Clooney or Mortenson particularly deserved an Oscar nod for their works, i don't think Clooney ever really plays more than one role, no matter what the part. I think the right person won, and deservedly so.
I will quibble about a couple other wins. Tilda Swinton? please, Ruby Dee slapped her silly with her performance in American Gangster. Elizabeth II won best costume? WHAT? It's a freakin sequel, there was nothing original about it, i guess that's hollywood though, you put on the most curtains and drapes and you win costume! And lastly, Persepolis was ripped off. Like Pixar needs another animated Oscar. Pfffft.
